After reading this lesson you should be able to..

  1. Define the following terms:  line, true breeding, F1, F2, segregating, genotype, phenotype, homozygote, heterozygote.
  2. Describe how a Punnett square diagram can be used to explain the occurrence of phenotype variation in a specific family.
  3. Predict the appearance of specific phenotypes in future generations, based on the principle of segregation and the inheritance of genes.
  4. Propose where predictions based on the principle of segregation would be used by a plant breeder during the process of breeding new lines of wheat or barley.
